Have you ever been in a Zoom meeting and struggled with poor audio quality, or fell victim to the dreaded echo? Or maybe your video keeps breaking up and freezing, or doesn’t turn on at all? No worries, we can help with that!
Technical issues are frustrating to say the least in online meetings. Some issues can’t be fixed on-the-fly and need major computer repairs to be corrected. Fortunately, most issues can actually be fixed quickly and easily by trying a few quick and easy tricks. We’ve supported over 1200 online meetings and training sessions to-date, so we’ve pretty well seen any issue you can imagine.
Before moving on to the tricks below, if you are on device that has successfully used Zoom for previous online meetings, simply restart your device. As basic as it sounds, this will usually get things working. We don’t want to change any system settings unnecessarily if Zoom has worked in the past for you.
Zoom Audio Issues – How to Fix Them
Here’s what a typical Zoom screen looks like:
Are you Muted?
Zoom sound not working? When entering a Zoom meeting, you typically need to unmute yourself by clicking the microphone icon in the bottom left corner of the Zoom screen to activate your microphone.
Still Can’t Hear or be Heard?
The Zoom software has a great diagnostic test that you can run at any time before or during a meeting. Click on the arrow head beside the Microphone button to find the option and follow the steps when prompted, this will accurately reveal whether Zoom mic not working is a hardware problem or simply a diagnostic quick fix.
If you want to manually choose a speaker and/microphone option, simply choose the device you would like to use in the list. In the example above, I am using “Marlon Hanssens’s AirPods Pro” for both the Microphone and Speaker and you will see a check mark beside the selection in use.
Zoom Video Issues – How to Fix Them
People Can’t See You?
Zoom video not working? First things first, do you have a camera? Most modern computers now come with cameras built-in but if you are using an old desktop computer in your office or that you found in your basement, you may not have a camera at all. That said, if you’re using a newer device, you probably have a camera. If you do have a camera, try turning it on by clicking the “Start Video” icon on the bottom left of the Zoom screen.
This is the camera turned off:

If that still doesn’t sort the problem and Zoom video not working, click on the arrow head beside the camera and manually try different cameras. In the example below, I have the option to use multiple camera options. Try them all to see if one will start your video feed.
